Y’all this was so hard for me to write. My up line asked me to share with the event happening this week my Plunder Why! So, here it is for you, my sweet community. Yes, it is an “opportunity” post but so much more to me to open up this way.
Meet Audrey McGowen Peacock!!!!! Stylist spotlight Hi! I’m Audrey Peacock and I’ve been a Plunder Design stylist for four years. My Plunder journey began when I started buying this fun, fabulous jewelry from a co-worker. When the opportunity was presented to me, I thought why not! I could just get it for myself and receive a little commission to help my new jewelry obsession. You see, I was one of those girls who stayed in the background with my little basic silver chain and little pearl earrings - never wanting to stand out and be noticed. You would rarely see me in a picture. I was always the one who took the photos. Then came big changes in my life. I got remarried after a very sad time in my life. My new life brought a whole new wonderful future. I made the decision to retire from teaching because logistically it was going to be hard to commute and I was ready for a change. Little did I know, I found I NEEDED Plunder. Because of Plunder I was able to stay in touch and meet so many wonderful ladies. See, we live on a lake and it is remote and I did miss seeing my coworkers and students and parents. My biggest blessing is that Plunder has kept me in touch with the world. When Covid came, I found it was even more important for this contact. I’ve created a sweet community within the virtual world and we see each other when we can. I’ve also learned a lot about technology and creating graphics, taking photos (I’m working on perfecting a selfie:) and writing. I enjoy teaching my Plunder sisters my new found skills so those teaching skills are still in play. These skills also transfer to my other part time job as an executive director where I’m in charge of our social media. Plunder is so much more than jewelry to me. Fun fact - I’m about to be 65. You can start at any age! I didn’t know I NEEDED it! Are you missing something in your life? This opportunity might just be the answer. Think starting over at 58 is easy? Of course not! But, God had a better plan. Six years later and I am more joyful and healthier than I could have ever imagined.
While 2020 has been a crazy year with sadness and happiness, I plan to be more focused on my endeavors and outreach in all that I do in 2021. I feel that we need to be more intentional in all that we do and uplift people! Be that friend! Really pray for someone. Not sure what God has planned for you? Listen to Him. Ask Him what it is, He wants you to do! How can you make a difference ???? Are you ready to find out? Be the one who can make a difference. So.... this is 64 ...... don't be afraid to take a selfie. Just have some good natural light and take a BUNCH or pictures! But then again, we also love to see in real life - real, raw, relatable.
Whatever your choose - show yourself! I spent most of my life not wanting to be noticed or be seen - stay small. It takes a life altering experience and yes, too, age - that makes you start to think about how you feel about yourself. I remember being in high school and never wanting to speak out, question, be noticed. One story I remember vividly was when I was 18 - it was the first year 18 year olds could vote - and I had a birthday in October. In Alabama, if you were born after October 1 you had to wait a year to start school, so that made me older that most students in my year. Our government teacher, Mrs. Powers (God rest her soul) asked who was old enough to vote. I was the only one! I was mortified because I had to raise my hand (I don't know why I even volunteered to raise my hand) and be noticed. No one else cared for sure - but me - I could have crawled under my desk. Wow, has how my attitude has changed. This girl who was always behind the camera - the one taking pictures is now snapping selfies! Sure, I try to post nice ones with good lighting - but still - I am doing it! Don't be afraid, ladies! Be bold. Don't hide. Yes, this is 64. Missing all my gifted peeps today because we can't see each other but we are enjoying a great virtual conference. Even though no one would see me, I still wanted to get up, fix my hair, put on make-up and of course some pretties!
